STONEWARE

Stoneware clay is the most pleasant clay body I've worked with. You can have more or less predictable results, meaning that after both firings shape pretty much stays the same, the piece will only shrink. I used to work on the potter's wheel when working with stoneware clay, but with time moved to hand-building only. At first with slabs and now only using coiling techniques. Making objects with coils takes longer, but I have more control over the shape. Since I'm not a production maker, this technique works for me best, and my customers are happy to know they have limited unique pieces.
